Does Boundary sell range extenders?
Not currently, but we're considering them as a future product.
Can I buy my own range extender and use it with the Boundary system?
No. Third-party range extenders are not supported and will not work.
Do I need/can I have a range extender?
Z-Wave range extenders help stabilise connectivity between the hub and Boundary devices and also increase range. It's normally not possible to judge before installation if a range extender will be needed. But if you are having issues with sensors or sirens after installation, troubleshoot with the below:
If issues persist, please contact our team for support. We'll do our best to fix your issues and if we identify a range extender is needed, we'll look into your options.
Note:
The instructions below are specifically for the Aeotec Range Extender 7 only, we don't currently support any other Z-Wave range extenders
How do I pair/set up a range extender?
See: Range extender set-up instructions
Where should I place a range extender in my home?
We suggest that you pair the extender near the hub but then move it away from the hub and as close to the problematic sensors/siren as possible.
Once paired, how do I know if my range extender is working?
The status in the Boundary app for range extenders isn't necessarily as "responsive" like the sensors and outdoor sirens. This is due to the firmware differences on range extenders. But here are some simple checks you can do to make sure the range extender is working:
- Check that the range extender is plugged in and switched on
- Check the LED on the range extender, it should be a solid white light
- If you make any changes, to the range extender, please wait 1-2 hours for the Z-Wave network to rebuild in your home
