Your central hub communicates with our network using the internet, primarily using your local Wi-Fi. The connection between your hub and our network is key for functions in the Boundary app as well as communication with the Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) if you have police monitoring.
Cellular backup means your hub can still communicate with our network even if your local Wi-Fi stops working. Instead of Wi-FI, the hub would use 4G or 2G as a backup to communicate with our network. This means that your home is still protected if your Wi-Fi fails due to a technical issue or if an intruder cuts your telephone cable.
As cellular backup requires a SIM card, with a phone contract, Boundary charges a small monthly fee for the service. The hub will also need to be upgraded.
