Boundary can now be controlled using Amazon Alexa and added into your home routines! The setup process is very simple and will allow you to arm/disarm your Boundary alarm using the power of your voice.
What you will need
- A Boundary alarm on any paid subscription plan
- The Amazon Alexa app
- An Amazon Echo enabled device
How to setup
- Download the Amazon Alexa app if you don't have it from either Google Play for Android or the Apple App store for Apple iOS devices.
- Setup your Alexa account and login to the app
- Tap the More link at the bottom right of the app
- Tap the Skills and Games link
- Tap the Search icon and search for Boundary Alarm
- Tap the Boundary icon
- Tap the Enable to Use button
- You will then be prompted to login to your Boundary account or you will be linked automatically if you are already logged into the Boundary app
At this stage, Boundary is linked to Alexa!
How to use
To fully arm the Boundary system
- Wake up your Alexa device simply by saying "Alexa"
- To arm Boundary, say "Arm away" - This is a quirk of Alexa where you need to explicitly state you are moving away from your property
- Alexa will then respond that Boundary is arming and you have 45 seconds to exit. If there are any open sensors then Alexa will let you know
To part arm the Boundary system (Night Set)
- Wake up your Alexa device simply by saying "Alexa"
- To arm Boundary, say "Arm stay" or "Arm Alarm"
- Alexa will then respond that Boundary is arming and you have 45 seconds to exit. If there are any open sensors then Alexa will let you know
To disarm the Boundary System
Before you can use Alexa to disarm your Boundary alarm you need to set a voice PIN for Alexa to use. This does not need to be the same as the PIN you use on the Boundary hub.
Note: Disarming via Alexa is optional. If you decide you wish to not have this functionality then you shouldn't set a voice PIN as described below.
- Open the Alexa app
- Tap Devices and then All Devices
- Tap Boundary central hub
- Next to Disarm by voice tap the toggle switch
- Tap OK after reading the voice code warning
- Enter the voice PIN you wish to use and then confirm the PIN
- On the next screen, you may need to login to the Alexa app to confirm the request
- Your Voice PIN code is now set
To disarm:
- Wake up your Alexa device simply by saying "Alexa"
- To disarm Boundary, say "Disarm my Alarm"
- Alexa will then ask for your voice PIN which you will need to provide
- If the PIN is recognised, Alexa will then respond that Boundary is disarming
Sensor States and Routines
When you enable the Alexa skill, all of your current sensors and states will be bought into Alexa automatically. This means you will be able to create routines such as playing announcements or music when a contact sensor or motion picks you up! There is a wealth of flexibility here and gives you great integrations into your other Alexa enabled devices.
